On July 29-31, the Nostalgia AA/Gassers, presented by Summit Racing Equipment, made their way back to Lancaster National Speedway and Dragway in Lancaster, NY for the ninth consecutive year for their historic Sunday Nostalgia. The club ran their Heads Up, All Out, No Index format which delivered the quickest and fastest gassers on the property.
Eight of the quickest and fastest gassers in the world made the trip including; “Motoring” Michael Campolucci driving the “Code Blue” 1933 Willys coupe owned by Larry Morton who qualified number one with a 5.05 ET at 135 MPH; Jr. Ward in Jim Oddy’s 1934 Willys Sedan “Junkyard Dog” qualified number two with a 5.06 ET at 136 MPH; Al Jr. driving the “Caged Heat” 1933 Willys coupe owned by his father “Double A” Al Niespodzinski qualified number three with a 5.12 ET at 134 MPH; Jeff Cryan in his 1933 Willys Pickup “Ron Bizio” qualified number four with a 5.38 ET at 132 MPH; “Tom Fritz in his 1941 Willys Pick Up “Goin’ Broke” qualified number five with a 5.49 ET at 130 MPH; Mike Kalinowski in his 1948 Austin “Unfinished Business” qualified number six with a 5.52 ET at 127 MPH; Al Borowski in his 1951 Anglia “ScottRods” qualified number seven with a 5.68 ET at 116 MPH and Derek Childress driving his 1933 Willys Coupe “Classical Gas” qualified number eight with a 5.81 ET at 108 MPH.
First round of eliminations saw Cryan get the win with a 5.30 ET at 130 MPH over Childress’ 5.84 ET at 111 MPH; Al Jr. got the win with a 5.14 ET at 130 MPH over Borowski’s 6.21 ET at 86 MPH; Ward took the win with a 4.99 ET at 142 MPH over Kalinowski’s 6.37 ET at 91 MPH and Campolucci took the win with a 5.13 ET at 122 MPH over Fritz’s 5.42 ET at 119 MPH. The final four saw Campolucci get the win with a 5.17 ET at 114 MPH over Al Jr’s 5.33 ET at 144 MPH and Ward take the win with a 4.89 ET at 144 MPH over Cryan’s 5.54 ET at 113 MPH.
The final came down to long time rivalries Jr Ward and Michael Campolucci just before sunset. Campolucci pulled off the line first but soon had trouble which allowed Ward to take advantage and get the win with a 5.00 ET at 143 MPH to Campolucci’s 6.81 ET at 85 MPH.
The Good Vibrations Motorsports “Best Reaction Time” winner was awarded to Al Borowski who was the quickest throughout the event with a best reaction time of .120. Also, Michael Campolucci took home the Jan-Cen Motorsports “Best Driver Award”.
